Beyond Adventure Bhutan 2024

Due to its relative geographical isolation, Bhutan remains one of the world’s least explored countries. Until 1974, Western travellers rarely visited at all. Even today, visitor numbers are strictly limited, meaning only a small number of people ever experience its extraordinary beauty firsthand.

Those who joined Beyond Adventure Bhutan 2024 stepped into a world shaped by ancient Buddhist culture and dramatic Himalayan landscapes. It is a country where tradition, spirituality, and nature exist in rare harmony, creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else on earth.

Beyond Adventure secured the necessary permits to enter this unique environment and created a self-drive expedition designed to replace observation with participation. Instead of travelling in minibuses like most visitors, participants each received their own 4×4 vehicle, becoming part of a very small group driving themselves through Bhutan.

The routes followed remote backroads leading to untouched villages, winding mountain passes, and elevations reaching close to 4,000 meters. Every day combined driving with discovery, offering access to landscapes and communities that remain far from conventional travel routes.

Evenings were spent in carefully selected, world-class accommodations, including award-winning resorts recognised by the international travel industry. These stays provided comfort and space to reflect after days of high-altitude driving and exploration.

The journey began with arrival in Paro, one of the world’s most spectacular airport approaches, where aircraft descend through a corridor of Himalayan peaks. From there, the expedition unfolded into an 8-day experience that revealed Bhutan in its purest form.

What made the 2024 edition special was the balance between simplicity and depth — 3 focused driving days, a carefully designed route of approximately 500 km, and terrain ranging from gravel mountain tracks to smooth stretches of tarmac, all framed by the silence and scale of the Himalayas.
